How do we choose the right treatment centre for my child or partner?
Consider the following factors when choosing the right treatment option for their situation and circumstances.
Consider the following factors when choosing the right treatment option for their situation and circumstances:
Staff Team
Does the programme have professionally qualified therapists and counsellors who are trained in the field of substance addiction? Do they offer a range of activities within the programme, including one-to-one sessions with a key worker, as well as group work?
Family Involvement
Are there opportunities for family and friends to get involved with the treatment so that everyone can get support? Does the programme have dedicated, trained counsellors or therapists who specialise in family support? Can they provide counselling for children if necessary?
Social Services
Are there people within the programme who can give good advice (or connect with external services to offer advice) on housing, employment and legal needs?
Urine Screening
Does the programme have randomised drug testing at least once per week? Testing is likely to help improve their motivation and self-management. Additionally, the family / parents, welfare services, probation officer or other referral source may want evidence of sustained periods of abstinence.
Continuing Care
Does the treatment centre have a programme of aftercare to guide each person through the time when they will be moving back into an independent home or family environment? Can they link your child or partner in with other service providers near your home to make sure that they continue to get support after rehabilitation? Can they go back to them at any time if they relapse?
